Farm Structures and Irrigation Department




Agricultural engineers who studied in farm structures and irrigation area are authorized to research, study, plan, make the project, implementation and monitor related to irrigation water, irrigation facilities up to 500 liters per second need, reservoir for irrigation and animal drinking water, drainage, soil and water conservation facilities for prevention soil erosion and agricultural structure. (12/18/1991 – No. 91/2526 the Decision of the Council of Ministers published in Official Gazette dated 24.01.1992 and No. 21121 Regulation on the Duty and authorities of the Agricultural Engineers and also defined and covered in article 19).



Our department has trained engineers acquired technical knowledge about farm structures and irrigation subjects of agricultural engineering with the continued personal and professional development of engineering education and with a sense of respect for ethical and professional values. Our department has also awareness the principle of generating knowledge for the benefit of country, society and humanity. Our undergraduate program students have been trained as an engineer in optimum utilization, conservation and development of wate resources, soil-plant-water relations, storage of water, water transmission and distribution structures, land levelling, farm roads, farm irrigation systems, drainage systems, land reclamation, land consolidation, and surveying, feasibility, planning, designing, application and controlling of like these soil and water utilization development projects.

Our students have also be trained in controlling environmental condition in farm structures, planning, designing and construction of farmyard, rural houses, cattle barns, sheep barns, poultries, greenhouses, mushroom producing structures, sheds, cereal and feed silos, fruit and vegetable storage structures, manure management, biogas systems and waste water systems structures. In
addition these, rural settlement planning, environmental controlling, agricultural information systems, structural and physical development of farm enterprises with the modern technology,
generating mathematical models related to agricultural and biological systems in engineering problems subjects have been given the students with whole details.

In the department, it has been given weight to theoretical and mathematical modelling for agricultural engineering problems and transferring to practical engineering applications by our students.
We have also provided for students to have a professional training about information technology applications besides agricultural education and research.

There are surveying, irrigation and drainage, soil mechanics, hydraulics and construction laboratories, a library of periodicals, scientific research, books in Turkish and foreign languages, a computer laboratory where students have been training about our relevant software packages.

Our graduates have opportunities for working in Republic of Turkey Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Forestry and Waterworks, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, municipalities, General Directorate of Agricultural Reform, Turkish Agricultural Credit Cooperatives, Agriculture and Rural Development Support Institution, governorship of province, private contracting firms and consulting firms working in environment and natural resources areas. They can also work in industry of agricultural Information technology and agricultural software development firms. In addition these, they can also establish their own companies and businesses.
